This is a real-life story. We are regularly trolling the web for great information about marketing, public relations, and innovation in those industries. There are a few we visit on a regular basis. One such site, Chris Brogan’s blog, had a great post not long ago asking for feedback from companies like ours…The article asked about how our clients want to use the web, and how (and whether) the nifty new features that are available really help. We posted a response with some comments about how you, our clients, are using the new media in various ways, and what you often look for when evaluating solutions for your business.
Our own web site statistics went up — no kidding — 50% that week, and all of the extra hits came from that single comment on someone else’s site.
This is how it works! As you browse the web, you’ll no doubt run across sites whose interests coincide with your own. Make comments where possible (and be credible!), and people will come find you. Whether or not it results in sales doesn’t matter so much as the fact that you’re gaining excellent additional exposure and establishing yourself as a knowledgeable practitioner of your craft, whatever that might be. This is marketing, not advertising, at its best. They’ll tell two friends, and they’ll tell two friends, and so on, and so on…
And so, until next time, happy browsing!
